What is NYPSL (National Youth Poetry Slam League)? |
NYPSL is a poetry slam competition specifically geared for teenagers (18 and under). NYPSL 2008 will be held on 25th Jul 2008.
NYPSL features poetry written and performed by teenagers (18 and under). Word Forward will be conducting workshops in order to provide training for our young talents
NYPSL is into its third year, having garnered favourable reviews from the media, educational institutions and other establishments, including a mention in parliament.
NYPSL offers all participants the opportunity to learn the skills required to successfully write and slam poetry and the chance to compete in front of a live audience for attractive prizes. |
| How does it work? |
Step One: Register and do the NYPSL workshops commencing in April. Step Two: Assemble your team of four to five members. Step Three: Practice Poetry Slamming with your team-mates. Step Four: Perform in front of an audience at a night of heats. The best performances from each night go though to a Gala Final. Step Five: Revel in the glory of performing and stand a chance to win some great prizes. |
| How do I sign up? |
- First, you must be registered online. Please contact your teachers for help with this step.
- You will be placed into a category that the committee deems appropriate.
- Teams must register by 25th May 2008. Late entries will not be accepted.
- This entitles 2 people from your group to attend a special one day workshop in early February 2008 that will cover basic writing skills and performance skills.
- Armed with these new skills you can then return to your schools and start writing and rehearsing for the NYPSL Final on 25th Jul 2008.
